“The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.”

We have Friedrich Nietzsche to thank for the quote above.  You might go beyond a painting or sculpture in your scope of beautiful and great Art.  You might consider a garden or a table setting to be Art.  For me the using precious metals, sterling silver and gold, to creating tokens of appreciation has been a form of gratitude in itself.  These designs are bound to become signature pieces… but I didn’t set out with that in mind.  Fortunately, I set out without a goal in mind.

Today I am shipping a stunning sterling silver belt buckle to a client.  It is personalized with an engraving that I hope he will share the significance of, once he receives the buckle.  But I have no doubt that this piece of art will fulfill his wish and that there will be a fabulous story behind it all.  That buckle has in it the essence of something greater than the weight of sterling or the image of the engraving.  That is the beauty of art and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Pictured here is my belt buckle, and yes, it has a story too.
