This is an obvious statement, because by definition fashion is ”a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior”. So in my mind, by default, being a trend would simply mean that what ever is popular now will be considered fake and disingenuous in a matter of time, or… faux.
You have a choice, embrace the faux or embrace the fabulous. And clearly, the fabulous is You. This may take some doing:
First you have to swim against the dirty tide of popular culture.
- Forsake the current fad. No Louis Vuitton (it is made in Chinese factories).
- Re-consider purchasing super thin t-shirts (only last two months) or low-rise pants with practically no pockets (even if you are a size two, why be uncomfortable?).
- Think twice before using harsh chemical on your hair and your face.
Then you have to sit still long enough to reclaim you.
- How do you acknowledge your strength?
- How do you create a safe place?
- How do you support your extraordinary self?
You might still want to get a knock off Coach bag (also made in Chinese factories) or get your hair dyed blue, but you might also stop long enough to ask yourself a few questions:
- Is this representing a genuine me?
- Is my purchase going toward the repression of folks?
- Am I stepping into my power as I adorn myself?
As the Greek Sage, Epictetus (AD 55 – AD 135) said, Know, first, who you are, and then adorn yourself accordingly.
All fashion is faux. You, however, are genuine, you are singular,
you are here and now, never going out of style!
