god is alive – magic is afoot

Service is but Magic
Moving through the world
And mind itself is Magic
Coursing through the flesh
And flesh itself is Magic
Dancing on a clock
And time itself the magic length of God.”

If you give yourself the title of “Luckiest Woman in the World”, I suppose you must believe in magic.  For me the little synchronistic moments, strange phenomenon and/or supernatural occurrences are happening all the time, and I am sure I fail to recognize many of them. This short story is about a recent event in which I did recognize the magic.

In early December a client came to me with a handcrafted bracelet made up of antique buttons. She had gifted it to a friend, who returned it a while later because one of the buttons had fallen out and was lost. My client was unable to locate the artist that made the bracelet and so the bracelet sat in a box, on her shelf, for almost a year. When she brought it to me I suggested we simply set a stone in the missing button’s place. I went about finding a stone to fit the setting, and after some time it was clear that the unusual size of the setting would require cutting a stone to fit and that would have been quite costly.

The next day, while walking out of my studio, a small box of assorted beads and stones fell at my feet. As I looked down to see what had fallen (seemed more like jumped) off the shelf, I noticed a few buttons among the items. One button was an exact match to the buttons in the bracelet. I was perplexed as to where the buttons came from and what the odds where that one would fix perfectly, in style and size with the repair I had on my bench at that moment. I set the button and then polished the bracelet up. When I handed it over to my absolutely thrilled client, we could not determine which button was the replacement.

It was inexplicable.

I took the photo of the painting (very top) while visiting the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts a few years back.
Could be painted by Thomas Eakins, perhaps Daniel Garber.

Meanwhile.
May 2020 be full of magic for you and your families.
Good, healthy, prosperous magic.

  • May you know peace.
  • May you know comfort.
  • May you shed all things no longer serving you.
  • May you be of service to others.

Thanks for walking with me.
Amy
