how to know if you are doing the best you can

How do I know this?  Because that is all we can do.
If you don’t believe me, take it from Don Miguel Ruiz.
“Always do your best”, is the fourth agreement in his book, The Four Agreements.

“Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick.
Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.”

Even if you purposefully do a shitty job at something, that was the best you could do
given your emotional and mental, and maybe even physical, situation.

Take my kids, for example.

I did the best I could as a mom. Did I fuck up? Royally. Can I acknowledge it? Everyday. Can I work at repairing and rebuilding relationships? Absolutely. Same goes with my family of origin, friends and work mates. Just keep paying attention and do the best you can. Forgive yourself and forgive others. We are all doing the best we can.

There is a great article and A WORKSHEET!!! that explains how we can change our beliefs and assumptions.  Elizabeth R. Thornton says,

“In order to change our lives and ultimately change our world, we must start by examining our own mental models:
our beliefs, assumptions, and expectations about the way the world is and the way things ought to be.”

I guess what I am trying to say today is this:
The world is changing.
To evolve with these changes we have to honestly examine
why we believe what we do and behave the way we do.
We also have to forgive those who trespassed against us
and forgive ourselves for our trespasses.
We need to go forward gently,
but we must go forward.
Be kind.
Be accepting.
Do the best you can.

Love,
Amy
